Gone are the days of me living life large to celebrate being one year older.
Now, I'm happy to mark the occasion by enjoying the little things. Such as a
sweet and delicious ice cream followed by pumping some change in to a classic
arcade machine or two to rewind the clock back to my youth when such a thing
was the norm. Those sure were the days...
In reality, its years since I actually celebrated my birthday. I'm at that age
where it feels like it is all downhill from here, even if that is really just
a bit of morbid exaggeration. That said, I really do appreciate each and every
birthday wish that I receive from friends and followers alike, even if I don't
feel the need to actually celebrate. It may seem like a small gesture to wish
someone well on their birthday but it can be deeply reassuring just know that
your existence isn't so irrelevant that not even a few people can spare you
those few seconds.
And, if there is something to be celebrated this year, it's that I've managed
to avoid repeating the monumental meltdown that I had this time last year when
I really did feel like I was the most worthless piece of shit around who was completely undeserving of any sort of kindness.
Sad times that, unlike my retro gaming fun, can stay firmly in the past
please.
