Melodies for the soul

I rocked up at this show by Eloise Moon at The Magnet Lounge after being personally invited by one of the band members, but honestly had no idea what to expect going in. It turned out to be a really nice, low-key evening.

The venue itself had a relaxed, intimate feel, and I ended up at the bar with a coffee, just taking it all in. The music leaned heavily into what I’d call a Celtic folk vibe. I honestly have no idea if that is an accurate description but it's the best I can come with for something that is not in my usual wheelhouse,

Basically, it was lots of soft, flowing melodies and a generally calming atmosphere that made it easy to just sit back and enjoy rather than feel like you had to be fully “on” the whole time. The rhythms swayed more than they struck. Fiddles and soft percussion danced around the vocals, and there was a kind of emotional clarity to it all, like clean air after rain. It paired perfectly with the quiet ritual of sipping coffee, each note settling in as comfortably as the warmth in the cup.

It wasn’t overly loud or intense for most of the set, which actually worked in its favour. Rather than getting smacked in the face by a wall of sound, it felt more like being bathed in soothing sea of swirling melodies. By the end, they picked things up a bit with a few slightly more rock-influenced songs, but it still kept that folk character running through it.
